Mushrooms have been and still are one of the tastiest dishes for centuries, but apart from their rich palate properties, they also have many health benefits. An additional advantage of mushrooms is their extraordinary wealth of nutrients, which makes them very filling even with a small amount of additives.

One of the greatest advantages of mushrooms is their ability to help us maintain a healthy body weight. Currently, many people struggle with extra pounds and often have a problem with getting rid of them effectively. On the one hand, they contain a lot of fiber, which makes us feel full. On the other hand, they have few calories in them, and thanks to the high water content, we do not need too much extra butter or fat to stew them in a pan, for example – they can also slowly cook in their own sauce. Mushrooms and chanterelles are the most recommended for people who care about their figure, as they contain the least calories.
Another plus for mushrooms is their abundance of nutrients. We can find here many essential elements for the human body, such as selenium, and a lot of healthy antioxidants, vitamins and micronutrients. Interestingly, the consistency of many mushrooms makes us perceive them similar to meat, which may be useful information for people trying to limit the consumption of animal products.
Who Shouldn’t Eat Mushrooms?
While mushrooms have many benefits, some people should not eat them or eat them very carefully. This rule applies primarily to children – the child’s digestive system is not yet fully developed, and mushrooms, in turn, are very demanding in this respect and take a long time to digest. Apart from the youngest gourmets, mushrooms should not be eaten (or limited in consumption) by the elderly, suffering from kidney and liver diseases and those with food allergies in this group of products.
What to look for when buying mushrooms?
If we like to eat mushrooms but are afraid to buy them, we can follow a few simple tips to help with the risk of buying inedible mushrooms. Above all, we should stick to one proven place that we have full confidence in. If we do not recognize the mushrooms ourselves, do not try to pick them in the forest or buy them dried, without packaging. A good option may be a selection of preserves, such as mushrooms marinated in the Schronisko Smaków Pantry or mushrooms in olive oil. It is also good to remember that many inedible mushrooms have a sponge under the cap, not gills – if we have bought a fresh product and have some suspicion about a specific art, it is best not to eat it.
